Scripts

Since 2015, I have been writing full-length pantomime scripts, all of which have been performed. I currently hold a list of 7 complete pantomimes: Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Dick Whittington, King Arthur, Peter Pan and Wizard of Oz.

All SCRIPTS written and owned by LOUISE MARKHAM.

Scripts are available to hire for performance. Please use the contact page to query. Enjoy the synopsis of the fantastical worlds of these larger than life characters!

Aladdin (written: 2015 / first performed: 2016)

Aladdin tells the story of a poor young boy who is lured into the magical Cave of Wonders with the promise of fabulous jewels by the evil (but rather incompetent) Abanaza, in exchange for an old lamp. Aladdin’s mother, Widow Twankey, cannot wait for Aladdin to return home rich, but all is not as it seems.

Suitable for varying cast sizes, there are opportunities for young roles (such as the Slave of the Ring and the Genie). Principal roles include the Princess and her handmaiden, the Vizier, Police double act and the lovable Wishee Washee.

Dick Whittington (written: 2016 / first performed: 2017)

A fast-paced pantomime that follows the traditional story of Dick Whittington and his talking cat, Tommy. Walking all the way to London, Dick Whittington soon discovers that the streets are not paved with gold, but covered with rats instead! Events then take a dramatic turn when he is accused of stealing from his new friends.

Characters include King and Queen Rat (the villains), Alice Fitzwarren (principal girl), Sarah Fitzwarren (the ‘dame’), Idle Jack, Fairy Bowbells and the double act of Captain and Mate, alongside some new faces.

Peter Pan (written: 2017 / first performed: 2018)

J. M. Barrie’s classic tale of Peter Pan transformed into a pantomime. Join Peter Pan, Wendy Darling and her young brothers, John and Michael, on an adventure like no other. Welcome to the enchanting world of Never Land – the land where you never grow up! Meet the Lost Boys, the mischievous fairy Tinker Bell, a beautiful Mermaid and a crew of dastardly pirates.

Keep an eye out for the infamous Captain Hook – captain of the Jolly Roger – who lost his hand to a hungry crocodile. He will stop at nothing until he has destroyed Peter Pan for good. It’s an awfully big adventure!

Peter Pan has its own special licence due to its connection with Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and therefore requires special permission for performance. This script was granted permission for a production in January, 2018.

Alice in Wonderland (written: 2018 / first performed: 2019)

Let your imaginations run wild as you follow Alice down the rabbit hole and enter Wonderland! This magical, mysterious land is full of dreams and enchantments. With so many characters to meet, there is hardly any time to waste! The Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Queen of Spades and the White Rabbit are just a few!

“Oh, my ears and whiskers, I’m late! I’m late! I’m late!”

Quick, follow that White Rabbit. He can talk! Now, let our mad story begin …

Wizard of Oz (written: 2019 / first performed: 2020)

Inspired by the works of L. Frank Baum, this version of The Wizard of Oz adds the extra spice of pantomime into the exciting world surrounding the Emerald City. This version follows every memorable moment that you would expect – with some added problems only found in the world of pantomime.

It’s a twister! It’s a twister! Get swept away with Dorothy Gale to the magical Land of Oz. After arriving in Munchkinland, Dorothy travels the Yellow Brick Road on her journey to the Emerald City. Along the way she meets a host of Ozians – not all of them friendly – in her quest to return home to Auntie Em and Uncle Henry back in Kansas. Will the mysterious Wizard of Oz grant Dorothy and her new companions their wishes?

Scarecrow wants a brain. Tin Man wants a heart. Lion wants courage. But the Wicked Witch of the West is after Dorothy. She will stop at nothing to prevent her escape. Will Dorothy and her little dog Toto ever return home to Kansas? After all, there’s no place like home.

Cinderella (written: 2023 / first performed: 2024)

Based on the classic fairy tale, we follow poor Cinderella and her lovable friend, Buttons. Cinderella’s horrible (and ugly!) stepsisters do everything they can to make her life miserable, egged on by their wicked mother, and Cinderella’s evil step-mother, the Baroness. But magic intervenes in the form of a Fairy Godmother, who weaves a spell of hope and goodness and sends Cinderella to the Royal Ball … and that’s when the real fun begins! A host of extra characters sprinkle this version of the story with a modern twist, including the Secret Agents! What are they up to?

King Arthur (written: 2024 / first performed: 2025)

The legend of Camelot comes alive on stage! Merlin, the infamous wizard, casts a spell over Excalibur to find the Once and Future King. He is determined for it to be Arthur, a nobody from the local village. But Morgana the Malicious has other ideas. She wants the crown for herself. Meanwhile, Morgana’s nephew is distracted by his dreams. He’s not interested in nasty schemes! Mordred is a moody teenager who dreams of being a rockstar instead!

The Knights of the Round Table rally to protect their kingdom – but they are often more a hindrance than help! Danger lurks around every corner for a cast of memorable characters all steeped in legend. Welcome to Camelot.

Aladdin – version 2 (written: 2025 / first performance in: 2026)

This second version of the classic pantomime is suitable for larger cast sizes or those with younger performers. With the range of characters, these are able to be split between many actors and share the fun of this traditional story!

Aladdin tells the story of a poor young boy who is lured into the magical Cave of Wonders with the promise of fabulous jewels by the evil (but rather incompetent) Abanaza, in exchange for an old lamp. Aladdin’s mother, Widow Twankey, cannot wait for Aladdin to return home rich, but all is not as it seems …
